Collectors and aficionados of style and history will soon be able to bring home a piece of history from a legendary Parisian palace, Le Royal Monceau.
The hotel is scheduled for a 10 month transformation from June, and will re-open in April 2009 as Le Royal Monceau - A Raffles Hotel. As a prelude to its makeover, the hotel will hold a four day auction, on June 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd, conducted by auction house Cornette de Saint Cyr, in collaboration with Court' Art.
Items that will be auctioned include furniture from Le Royal Monceau's Royal Suite, its five presidential suites, lobby, Royal Bar and restaurants which feature interiors designed by star decorator Jacques Garcia.
Not only will items bearing the hotel's elegant emblem, such as silverware, porcelain, Frette linen be available at the auction, but also antique 18th and 19th century furniture from the hotel's 203 rooms and suites.
In addition, the hotel's chandeliers and fabrics, signed by Rubelli, Nobilis and Pierre Frey will also be available at the auction.
Le Royal Monceau was founded in 1928 by Pierre Bermont and Andre Junot, when Paris was widely regarded as the centre of creativity and modernity. Since 1928, the hotel has welcomed innumerable dignitaries, celebrities and artists including Mistinguett, queen of the French Music Hall, the Aga Khan, the Countess of Paris, Joseph Kessel, General Pershing and General Eisenhower.
